Paul Lynam is a kitchen fitter and carpenter serving Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas. Trading as Paul Lynam Carpentry and based in Bath, Paul is your main point of contact from the first site visit through to the finished handover — you deal with the same person throughout, not a sales team or a rotating crew.

Period Properties
Kitchen Fitting in Period Properties
Bristol has a lot of Victorian and Edwardian housing, and these properties come with their own set of challenges. Walls are rarely straight, floors can slope, and chimney breasts create awkward recesses that standard units don't fit without modification. None of this is a problem. It's just part of the job, and we plan for it from the start.
Scribing units and panels to follow the contours of a wall is standard practice. Fillers and pelmets are cut to size on site, not assumed from the plan. In some cases, we'll recommend adjusting the layout slightly to work with the room rather than against it. The goal is a kitchen that looks like it belongs in the space, not one that's been forced into it.
What we often find behind old units is worth mentioning. In older properties, walls can be significantly out of plumb, sometimes by several centimetres over the length of a run. Damp patches, old pipework, or damaged plaster are common discoveries once the old cabinets are out. None of this is unusual, and we plan for it. If we do find something unexpected, we'll talk to you about it before carrying on.
